In his book, Bob Lambert, who headed the Metropolitan Police Muslim Contact Unit as part of the force’s counter terrorist operations, argues for a fresh approach to tackling al-Qaeda inspired or directed terrorism.
One of the key players in the successful operation to oust radical cleric Abu Hamza’s supporters from Finsbury Park Mosque in 2005, he shows how al-Qaeda propagandists aim to exploit real and legitimate political grievances about US and UK policy in the Muslim world. He also points to the influence of powerful neo-conservative think-tanks which equate support for the Palestinians with support for al-Qaeda and other Islamist movements.
The book shows that successful and effective British Muslim organisations, such as Interpal, have been wrongly demonised because of their active support for Palestinians.
Other speakers include Ibrahim Hewitt, Chairman of Interpal, Anas Altikriti, CEO of The Cordoba Foundation, and Chris Doyle, Director of CAABU.
This timely and important book, normally retailing at £19.99 a copy, is being offered to invited guests and members of CAABU by the publishers, Hurst, for £12.99, inclusive of postage. Order forms will be available in the Grimond Room.
